With a minor sprained ankle minor to no professional therapy is needed just ice and elevation for approx 10-14 days or until the swelling is controlled and the inflamation goes down, then slowly introducing weight to the ankle with help of a cane/ crutches and within a week you should be walking just fine again (thats if you take it REALLY slow) normally within a few days at max.
with a strain you have partially torn the ligaments and with stretching you'll hear that popping sound cause there is scar tissue likely breaking and the ligament being straightened, I have strained my ankles each twice and have never had a problem with them following these basic home remedies, with introducing range of motion and weight in a easy way.

Get an X-ray done to confirm proper healing after the injury. (If it was a fracture)
Did you wear a brace appropriately long for 3-4 weeks? If so then with proper healing you can continue physiotherapy, take NSAIDs occasionally and also apply ice packs.
