I just had shoulder surgery on Dec. 8 and, like you, later found out I had had a bursectomy. I had had shoulder pain for many years and then, coincidentally, had injured it at work & developed a frozen shoulder. The surgery was for the frozen shoulder but the bursectomy was performed because of the amount of inflamation (bursitis) that the surgeon found. Perhaps your pain was also caused from bursitis. I only found out when my physiotherapist received a surgery report - the surgeon didn't even mention it when I saw him again a week after the surgery. Hope this helps. Good luck with your recovery!
Hello!
The surgeon might have diagnosed impingement syndrome so he went for bursectomy.
There will be more space for your tendons and you will have free movement of rotator cuff tendons.
Because inflammation in the bursa below the acromion process (a part of your shoulder girdle) contributes to the pain of impingement syndrome, this lubricating sack is often removed so confirm this near your surgeon.
Take care!
