Wondering probable cause of temporary paralysis?

I was partially paralized for six months after undergoing 15 low back traction treatments. When lying down I was unable to lift my head and also when lying down I was unable to lift my hips. If I need to move to a different area on the bed, I was unable to lift my hips and slide over, therefore I had to roll out of bed and get back in aiming for the spot on the bed I desired otherwise I would have to repeat the roll out of bed maneuver.  An MRI of my T-Spine showed that I developed a widening of the spinal column (T5-6)  (hydromyelia) with a syrinx after under going the treatments.  There was no Chari or lesion found. Does a lesion mean that the condition was present since birth? My neck and low back have herniated discs that preexisted. What area probably caused the temporary paralysis?

Hi there!

While hydromyelia is usually congenital, syringomyelia could be congenital or acquired post trauma. Lesions at T5/T6 are unlikely to have been responsible for your symptoms. It would be difficult to determine the possible cause without a detailed clinical evaluation. I would suggest discussing the situation and the appropriate management plan in detail with your treating neurologist.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
