Help me decide

Fell on my right-hand pinkie two weeks ago.  Finally had xray and broke it at the base.  Most of the swelling has gone done and I have most use.  Two problems remain:  a bit of swelling and finger is curved.

Saw a hand specialist here on East Coast.  He recommends surgery but after having trouble with my bunion surgery, I am wondering if this is worthwhile.

Right now, I have some stiffness but can do most of my activities.  Affects my writing a bit.  I am 65 yrs old.
Of course a surgeon is going to recommend surgery; it is his livelihood.  He also says it will be general anesthesia rather than localized.

After reading some of the problems here, if you had little pain and about 90% use of what you did before, would you opt for surgery????

Thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
Well, I would first recommend physiotherapy. Gentle stretches and strengthening exercises involving all fingers and thumb will help straighten the finger to some extent. Along with this some extra attention can be paid to little finger while doing the stretches. Unless there is severe bone/joint deformity, usually this will bring the little finger to a near normal position. Take care!

The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
