ATFL injury help

Hi all, about 18 months ago i sprained my ankle by twisting it in a pothole in the road. It swelled badly and the pain was intense. I am still having issues now. I went for U/S scan which showed thickened ATFL and excess joint fluid. My consultant recommended U/S guided injection into the ATFL, which was done a week ago. Im still suffering lots of pain, stiffness and grinding sensations, and my ankle cracks if i rotate it. How long will it take for what i assume to be soreness from the actual injection to ease? I have trouble walking, more so than before the injection! Im slightly scared that the next step will be surgery.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

It may be sometime before relief is noted. In addition I would suggest resting the foot and avoid putting weight on it for a few weeks. You could try using a crepe bandage for the same. Warm compresses and NSAIDS may be helpful for pain relief as well.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
