four corner fusion

My husband went through the four corner fusion and scaphoid removal surgery in November of 2012.  After numerous trips back to the surgeon, and exrays each trip, he explained to dr that he is in more pain than pre op.  He chose a new surgeon.  The new surgeon ran CAT scan and found that one of seven screws was in fact not placed into the bone.  Is this common?

Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your husband’s medical problems. Well, screws and other hard wares do cause problem. The screw could have got undone during movement or physiotherapy or it may not have been placed properly at the first attempt. It is difficult to say what happened. However, the screw could be the cause of pain and may need to be removed. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care!
