I am 38 years old, married for 3 years, never have children. During a recent ultra sound scan, a cyst of about 4 x 6.5 cm on the left ovary and two cysts of 2 x 2 cm on the right ovary were found. I have seen 3 gynecologists, all of them were so sure they are "chocolate cyst" and advised to go for a laparoscopic surgery to remove them.
A laparoscopic surgery was scheduled to remove the cyst three weeks ago. CA125 was normal before the surgery.
The gynecologist then found the cysts to be teratoma (dermoid cysts), and they are a lot of small cysts which he said might be PCOS and also there are two hard cells on the left ovary. So, the laparascopic was changed into an open surgery, he took a biopsy of the hard cells and sent for further lab tests.
The pathological report came back saying that the dermoid cysts were all benign, but the biopsy of the hard cells express CEA and CK7, negative CK20.
The gynecologist then recommended to go for a CT scan and send my blood sample for CA125, CA153, AFP and CEA. The blood tests and the CT scan all come back fine.
The gynecologist who did the surgery recommended going for a second surgery to remove the left ovary as a diagnostic and preventive measure. I have since then talked to a second gynecologist and a friend who is an oncologist. Both of them think it's too drastic to do so (remove the left ovary) when there is so evidence of malignancy found yet.
Since CEA expression may associate with colonic cancer and I have a history of constipation and diarhrea, they have recommended me to go for a colonoscopy and gatroscopy.
Anyone have experienced the same before? What did you do?
