Brownie Update

Have received several more text messages from our buddy and they have come at various times:

"Have been in the hospital since Thursday afternoon"  (4:30 ish)

"I have 3 large fluid pockets that need to be drained either by needle or drain bag.  I've been crying all morning I just can't do this anymore.  I am going to try and sleep now.  I have the procedure scheduled tomorrow.  They will insert needles into all 3 masses to biopsy the fluid if infected we might be looking into another surgery if not I may have a drain attached for a few weeks it's all up in the air.  (10:00 PM )

I am sorry I have not been able to post these as soon as they come in cause I have been having some weird fugue state thing going on but I promise I will try to do a better job of keeping up with it.  Deandra said she would have her mom call me tomorrow and as soon as I hear something I will post it. She really appreciates and loves all of you.

Jan sent me a text to update on Deandra --

" Deandra had surgery today-- just post-op gunk -- they put in two drains. Will decide antibiotics. Hospital one week. Didn't say about labs. "

And she added --

"Cory so tired and SNORING."

Well, at least Cory is catching some zzz's not sure about our buddy Jan. They've had a long day and she's not near a computer -- but is thinking about everyone. (That's Jan for you! :))

Alright, I am off to bed -- 6 hours of sleep is going to fly by.
Love you all,
Fran

I just spoke with Norma and Deandra is doing much better today.  They have her pain managed and the shock of the news is dulling some.

Apparently, she had taken Magnesium Sulfate for that problem we all seem to have, but it worked to well and the next day when it was still working, Deandra felt something was wrong and Norma said she looked white. They got her to the ER and hooked her up to IV's and took blood.  Her white count was elevated.  They did a CT and found the 3 fluid sacs the largest was in the pelvic area, I don't know if the other two were there or somewhere else.   They said it could be an infection or just post op fluid.

Yesterday, they finally got her pain managed better around midday and instead of morphine shots occasionally they have her on a dilaudid drip.

Today they did a needle drainage of the 3 fluid pockets and they were able to drain 2 completely and the other they couldn't because it had bubbles or something.  The fluids looked clear and the Dr said it doesn't look like an infection, but they have to wait for the cultures to get back.  They had said that the body can absorb this kind of thing but nobody seems to know if she can or not given the situation.  If it doesn't go away they will have to do a "small" surgery (like any are really small)  to get it out.

She was upset yesterday because this Dr asked if the Dr that did the colostomy thing had checked for leakage.  No, he's been doing it forever, but he didn't check the most important thing.  DUH!!!!!!  He said they may have to reverse the colostomy if it was leaking.  WTF!!!!!!!!   I am glad i don't have that jerkoff Dr.  What was he thinking????  Like she didn't have enough on her, he had to question her specialist that did the surgery and make her worry about wearing that awful bag again.  I could take out all of my anger on his face right about now.

Oh, she is also having a blood transfusion due to some problem with that.  I did not get details.

She said the nurses on the oncology floor are very attentive and always glad to see her but hate the circumstances.  Like most of us in and out of the hospital,  we know the wonderful nurses that take such good care of us.
She and Luke are still going to take their trip.  I am sure when they planned it they were not thinking they would have more chemo on their minds.  I hope she can forget it and have a wonderful time.

The bottom line is they are hoping that the fluid is just post op build up and that there aren't any more problems.  Deandra had been thinking about not taking more chemo, as I am sure many of us have thought, but her mom said she is coming around to the idea of getting rid of those little suckers before they form into something else.  We all know she is a fighter so she will rally round and do this, I am sure.

Thanks Jan for the update... it's good to hear how Deandra's doing. She's a strong girl and hopefully this won't get to her too much. It's a lot for a young person to be going through. I hope and pray that she is soon back on track, and doing really well.
Blessings to you and Deandra and all here.   hugs...Helen...

Being so new to this forum I find myself feeling like I'm intruding on so many personal posts. On the other hand I also feel more connected to the forum women than to my friends I've had for years. Jan does so much for so many. In the short time I've been using the forum that is evident. Gia, thanks for the prayers. I, too, will be praying hard for Deandra, Jan and everyone touched by this forum. Love and respect, Marie
