Complex Ovarian Cyst Question

Hi,
I had an ultrasound that shows a complex ovarian cyst measuring 5+cm.  I'm trying to decided if I want to wait a couple of months to see if it will go away on its own or have surgery.  I had cancer 10 years ago so I'm somewhat hesitant to wait but also don't want to overact and rush into surgery.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I think you are wise to make an appt with a gyn/oncologist for a second opinion.  This is the person who would have the best chance of separating the tumor from the ovary.....I can certainly understand your wanting to keep the ovary.  Once you know what you are dealing with decisions can be made.  I wish you all the luck in the world....I know this has to be a very difficult time for you.....but, ....you can do this.
Please do keep us posted.
Peace.

I had Hodgkin's Disease before which is in the lymphnodes.  My gyn suggested waiting 8 weeks for another ultrasound. I think I will make an appt with a gyn/onc for a second opinion.  I'm hesitant to do the surgery b/c he said that if they had a hard time separating the cyst from the ovary, they would have to remove the ovary.  I'm 30 years old and I'd sort of like to keep my ovary:)

If you were my daughter, I would take you by the hand to the office of a gyn/oncologist and we wouldn't leave there  until we saw him/her, and decided on a plan of action.  My first instinct would be "take it out and let's see what we are dealing with".  I wouldn't want to waste any time or take any chances.
Of course, the surgeon would be a gyn/oncologist.....that's not up for discussion.
Those are my thoughts.
Peace.

HI. What kind of cancer did you have?  Normally 5+cm typically is something that you should start watching more closely, especially since it is complex.  What advise did your physician give you?    Jane
