Metastatic Breast to Ovary

I would love to hear from others that have had breast cancer that spread to the ovaries. I had a profalactic (sp?) hysterectomy on May 2 and they found that breast cancer had spread to my left ovary. I have been a breast cancer survivor for 2 years and was on tamoxifen. My Onc has me on Aromasin for 5 years. No chemo, no other treatment. She said they caught it early.

I am wondering if there is anyone that can tell me about their similar experience?

I have not had breast cancer, but I was diagnosed from a biopsy taken right on the edge of my right breast. I had developed what I later learned were skin mets. I had knots (or what I was calling cysts) all over my torso, from my neck to my waist. At one count I could feel 15, but later found there were many more a little deeper down, I was just not pressing hard enough to feel them) Several of these knots were around my breasts, close enough to make the Dr's wonder. So one that was the closest was biopsyed. When it came back cancer, there was enough cancer found that they could not determine the origin of it. The tissue sample was sent to Mayo clinic so they could find out where it was coming from, and their findings were the ovaries. So they are able to tell from path findings.

i have a friend whose mothers breast camcer metastisis to her periotoneal cavity.  unbievlable

I know of a breast cancer survivor that was diagnosed with OvCa.  Two separate sites, two separate cancers.  These two cancers are often related, I believe it has to do with estrogen and hormones, etc.  If you have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer you have a higher risk of being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and visa versa.

By the way, they will be able to tell if it is OVCA or Breast cancer mets by the type of cancer it is...if it is in the ovaries.

The only reason I know it spread is because I opted to have my uterus and ovaries removed. The reason I did this is because of family history. The ONC GYN said that this cancer in my ovary would have NOT been detected any other way. Not by PET or CT. I am very lucky I had the procedure done.

I doctor would be able to confirm, but, I have only heard of breast cancer mets to ovaries. I have not met anyone that had OVCA that spread to the breast. Not saying it isn't possible, just never heard about a case.

I was DX with breast cancer on June 27th we met with a breast surgon on July 1st .. But the thing is in my case have been exhibiting all the symptoms of OVCA since Oct -07. My pelvic area is really painful as is my abdomene tender too .The pain got worse when the breast lump appeared ... On monday the 7 had a ct contrast scan, bone scan and chest xray... On the 8th met with a gyn/onc who will do a complete histerectomy at the same time the breast surgon does a complete massectomy ....We have the  path reports for the breast but  will have to wait till they have tissues to send in from the histerectomy. Will then have chemo  so How can you tell weather mine is breast cancer spread to ovaries or the other way around??? no date for surgery yet but hope its soon...

I'm sorry this has happened to you.  Breast cancer that has spread to any other organ is still breast cancer but called metastatic breast cancer.  Ovca can spread to the breast or brain, etc. but it is still ovca.  I think you would be better off asking this question in the metastatic breast cancer forum where there are bound to be others who have had this experience.

caveat:  I'm not telling you you posted in the wrong place.  I'm not telling you to leave here; continue posting if you want. I'm not saying this because I have metastatic ovca and you may not.  I honestly want you to get the help you need and think that would be on the Breast Cancer III and IV forum.  Best wishes.
