Ovarian Cancer Treatment, India

Hi,
My mom is undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer (stage 3C). She has undergone 4 cylces of chemotherapy (Carboplatin + Taxol) prior to surgery. Her De-Bulking surgery was done successfully and as per doctor no macroscopic residue was remaining. Operation procedure included  pelvic peritonectomy. complete greater and lesser omentectomy, Lig. Teres exercised, Appendectomy, Bil-Pelvic Node Disection and RPLND upto renal vessels. All other lymph nodes were removed and found negative. Post surgery doctor recommended only 2 clycles of Carboplatin and Taxol(IV). IP is not common and advisable in India.
Are 2 cycles post-surgery adequate or should she take more cycles?
Is IP possible afterwards if cancer recurs sooner  or later?

Regards,

Mom was in a similar situation as yours.  She had 3 cycles IV taxol/carbo. Complete debulking, 3 more cycles of IV Taxol/Carbo.  Then she had 3 cycles of IP Cisplatin as consolidation.

Her treatment was in Bangalore and i am sure most of the big cities do IP chemo.

The standard treatment is a minimum of 6 cycles of Taxol and Carboplatin. Often times maintenance therapy is then given for a year using Taxol. You probably would find it helpful to post your question on the Ask the Expert forum. Dr. Goodman is excellent. Best wishes to you and your mother.

I'm no expert,  but this doesn't sound unusual.  I'm sure the doctors will follow up regularly with appropriate blood tests (CA125 would be common here) and occasionally scans (CT and MRIs, occasionally PETs, according to the doctor's preferences).

Good luck and God bless ,,,
