Ovarian Remnant Syndrom

I was diagnosed with this a year ago.  I started with one cyst on the left side.  My last ultrasound showed four cyst going from left to right and I also had blood work done that showed I am producing estrogen.  I have had a hysterectomy and oopherectomy 10 years ago.  My doctor says I should be thinking about having surgery.  I really dont know what to do.  Please advise.

I was diagnosed with Overian Remnant Syndrome and am having surgery for the 5th time on the 23rd of this month. I lived with pain for almost 6 years this time before my Doctor and I decided it needed to be done. I'm not saying this to frighten you because like all other new discoveries of medecian they continue to find better ways of treating these new diagnoses. Unfortinatlly when I was going through this in my early 30's 14 years ago this was all new to doctors.
One thing that I would look into is your obgyn working with a  oncologist that specializes in laprascopic surgery. The resson for having an oncologist is not for fear of cancer but oncologist are known for and have been trained for very deliacate laprascopic surgery. The have that eye when it come to finding and getting things that others dont see.
Laprascopic surgery also cuts down on the amount of scar tissue you will get which can be as painful as the dignosis itself if you have to continue with all these surgerys.

Please forgive the spelling for i am not the best speller but wanted to share this info. with you.
God Bless You! Hope all goes well for you,
Felicia

I too was diagnosed with what my GYN/ONC believes is ORS.  I have had a hysterectomy and oopherectomy for early stage OvCa and about 2 years later a cystic mass was discovered.  We have been watching it and watching it.  As I have had two surgeries and there is a lot of scar tissue, my doctor does not feel that surgery is the answer for me, at least not right now.  I do not have pain, so no reason.
My doctor has said to me that he has no doubts that I flucuate in and out of menopause, based on my FSH levels.
He has also said, that he cannot confirm that it is actually ORS unless they sample the tissue.
There is another wonderful woman that posts Kasie (fungirl) who is waiting to have surgery for ORS.
Good luck to you,
Pam

Hi Meg,
I had a hysterectomy two years ago and then I had my left ovary removed last year due to a very large cyst....now the ultrasound states that my left ovary has another large cyst!!!! The Dr. says that I have ORS and he felt surgery would be too risky and also would cause too much adhesions, so he has prescribed me a contraceptive pill to try and suppress the estrogen in hope the cyst will not grow any more.Unfortunately I can't seem to find too much info on ORS at all so I can't help you much,I'm sorry.

There are a few (very kind and helpful) women on this board (also on the Ovarian Cyst patient-to-patient board) who have had problems with Ovarian Remnant Syndrome. I am sure they will be along (probably after the weekend) to offer some thoughts on this....

Take care and welcome to the forum.
