The CA125 is used for a lot of women as a marker normal is 35 or below. Having said that even if you have a high number this does not mean that you have cancer. It can also be high due to an infection or other issues. I hope this helps. This is the exstint of my knowledge on the CA125.
Good luck with everything please keep us posted.
I am glad to hear that you are seeing an surgical oncologist. Chances are that you do not have cancer, but if you do you will have the most experienced with this kind of surgery involved. Good luck to you, try not to worry so, that is tough though, waiting is the hardest part.
Take Care, Kerry
Thanks to all for your advice. My gyn. dr is referring me to Loma Linda Oncology for
total abdominal hyst. salpingo(?), pending out of network auth from my medical grp.
My dr said at the exam he could visually see the large mass,(I thought it was FAT!)
I got the ca-125 blood test done,no result yet...but he said the results are unreliable. Why do they use this blood test then, is it a formality? Anyways I am ready to move forward and attack this and I feel like Loma Linda is a good place to start. Someone at
dr office also said they will look at my appendix and take the pelvic lymph nodes out.
Dr told me it didn't look like there was cancer in the pelvic lymph system, can't be sure
until they do surgery.
I agree please do that. Push for that. I wish that I had. It can make a BIG difference.
I agree with Pam. You MUST get a gyn/oncologist involved. Insist on a gyn/oncologist, even if the doctors are confident that the mass is benign. This is the best insurance you can get for the best possible result.
Thank you so much for giving me hope. My appointment is tomorrow with the
vacationing gynocologist.
There is no diagnositc tool for detecting OvCa, but, they will do a blood test called a CA125 and the doctor might also send you for a transvaginal sono and/or CT Scan. Together the tests might give them a bit more info.
With a mass that size, they will want to remove it. I had several masses, the largest was over 22cms...and although it was cancer, it was contained to the mass, and I have been doing great for 10 years.
Hang in there, try hard not to panic until you have all the facts. In the meanwhile, get a copy of the MRI and any other tests that they have done and ask about a referal to a GYN/Oncologist.
Keep in touch and let us know how things are going.
Pam
