Peritoneal mass

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this community so I dont know Jan. From the posts I read, she seems like an incredible person and my prayers are with her and her family in this difficult time. I lost my aunt at 52 with pancreatic cancer that had spread to the bowel and liver before she was diagnosed. I learned from my ob on Monday that I have a peritoneal mass approx 4cm growing where my right ovary was. I had an ultrasound last friday as she wanted to make sure there were no surprises before she does a hysterectomy tomorrow, the 16th. Its nice to know I wasnt imagining the bloating, constripation, severe pain in my right side  and abnormal bleeding (even though I had a uterine ablation 3 years ago and my period had disappeared) for the past 7 months. Thanks to this website I read that a peritoneal mass can be a type of ovarian cancer when the ovaries are gone. Has anyone had this? The OB is not doing anymore tests before tomorrow as she says she doesnt want me stressed to the limit before surgery and she will make a full evaluation when she goes in there tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help, Anne

Anne,
Peritoneal cancer is essentially the same as ovarian cancer except the primary site (where it starts) is the peritoneal lining of your abdomen - so you can get it even if you don't have ovaries.  They treat it the same as ovca though.  The doctors weren't sure which I had - still had my ovaries but the cancer was outside and its origin unknown - but they are treating it exactly like ovca.  Best of luck with your surgery.  I hope things turn out well for you.

I have Primary Peritoneal Cancer .. and still had my ovaries (which were actually fine).  I was told that a hysterectomy would not have changed anything .. that one can still get PPC without ovaries.  I will hope and pray you have a benign growth and don't have to visit this forum again.  You will have to let us know how you made out, tho.  May God Bless You.  Judy
