Hi Dr. Goodman -- I am BRCA1 positive with single mutation -- my sister died of ovarian at 46 and my mother of breast at 74. Diagnosed IIIC July 2003 complete hysterectomy -- 1483 CA125 prior to surgery, 27 after first round of chemo --- Carbo/taxol/doxil two rounds on clinical trials then finished up with four rounds carbo taxol (kicked of trials no hemotologic recovery) -- CA125 was 5 -- started climbing 18 months later and used Tamoxifen for 6 months before starting another 6 rounds of carbo/taxol -- scans showed tumors still there although counts were 7. Five months later counts up to 291 and this time did 6 cycles of Doxil. Now have CA125 of 256 but tumors show a fraction of what they were prior to Doxil. All limited to pelvic area -- no spread outside pelvis -- instead of continuing Doxil or switching to something else, my med onc, in conjunction with an opinion from doc at Fox Chase has me starting Arimidex 1mg daily to get the counts under control. I am clearly not in remission. Please advise as to your thoughts on the Arimidex versus continuing with Doxil or switching to Topotecan or Avastin with cytoxin or w/abraxane. The Fox Chase guy didn't want to use up the aresenal on tumors measured in millimeters -- I'm afraid it will really take hold and I'll be sunk. It's been 5 years so far and I've got an 11 and 13 year old I have to be around for at least until they get out of high school. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Jeanne
