Surgery

They want to remove my right ovary due to serveral cysts that has sepatations and mostly solid area's.I asked my doctor shouldn't I be seen by a Cancer doctor since this could be ovarain cancer and was told it was my choice. She has refered me to the doctor that did my partial hysterecotomy in 2003. I see him on April 1st. My question is can a regular GNO doctor know what to do if it's cancer or should I see one that trained in ovarain cancer just incase this turnes out to be somthing bad. I am 41 years old they have been watching 1 cyst for about 9 months with US every 3 months and then 1 month ago it changed to serveral. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks for your comments I go see the regular gyn on April 1st so I will be asking him to refer me to a gyn/onc but there are none in my area so I will have to travel to Memphis or Nashville to get this done. I just hope it's not a long wait.

You Go, girl!!!! Don't be scared to see an gyn/onc. Hopefully, it is not cancer, but just in case you want the right doc there. Your welcome for the reply, and if you need any other support, just say so.

Hugs,
Shari

Hi,
I would definately see an oncologist , most cysts are benign but septated or more commonly known as complex cysts can raise suspicion for malignancy. The fact that you now have more cysts is even more important to be seen by an oncologist who is very experienced in this type of surgery should cancer be discovered . It is a very important decision and I hope you have been persuaded to see an oncologist .
As was said most cysts are benign but with the small chance of a malignancy being present its best to take no chances.

Hope all goes well , take care Angie xx

Sorry about your latest health problems. Personally, I believe a gyn/onc is the best person for the job. They are specially trained in gynecolgical cancers, debulking, staging,etc..... I would think about it like this: YOU deserve the best, so go out and get it!
If the doctor that did your surgery in 2003 is not a gyn/onc, he should be able to refer one to you. I'll be thinking of you!!!
