Update -- The waiting is the hardest

I had my appointment with the surgeon this morning.  He told me that he is almost certain it's not cancer!  His words when I entered his office were "you don't look sick to me!"  I loved him immediately.  He has a great bedside manner and was very caring.

He told me that it appears to him to be a pendulated fibroid or an endometrioma (even though the MRI indicated a "malignancy") or even just a plan old benign tumor.  He said there are none of the indications of cancer (normal lymph nodes, no ascites, etc.).

He said I possibly have endometriosis, definitely have a couple of fibroids in the uterus and a cervical polyp.  The uterine lining is normal.  BTW:  the mass is on the right (if you remember, I forgot to ask).  Now that I know it's there, of course a lot of things have fallen into place :0)).  The cramps are caused by the mass pressing on everything and maybe by some hormonal issues.  He also told me I might not have been in menopause when I thought I was since there were no blood tests taken!  He did order a CA-125 which I went for this afternoon.

In any event, he gave me some options and I opted for a total hysterectomy.  No sense going through this again!  The gynecologic oncologist who heads the practice will be on standby the day of the procedure which is comforting (he explained the staging thing just in case).

I know I'm not completely out of the woods yet, but I can see the light.  Thank you all for your support.  I will still be on this site to give updates and encouragement.  Although I haven't "known" you all very long, I consider you friends!

Gerri

The surgery is scheduled for 1/29.  I go for the pre-op tests tomorrow.  Can't come too soon for me.  Every pain and cramp I feel makes me nervous :0)).
