My 15 year old niece has this week had surgery to remove a 10cm twisted ovarian cyst which has also resulted in the removal of her right ovary. We have been given no information whatsoever since the operation but were however given loads of information before the surgery such as she didn't have cancer, surgery was the only option as the cyst was so badly twisted and apparently the size of a grapefruit. She went in on monday with suspected appendicitis after blood tests, a scan and an mri scan urgent surgery was ordered. She is two days later still on an epidural drip and also a morphine drip. Can anybody tell me any further information or the implications on her fertility, will a cyst of this sort return? Her mum, my sister, and dad are all beside ourselves with worry and since the operation information seems scarce.
