complex cyst/free pelvic fluid

Hello, i am new to this board, found it while trying to find info. I recently was told by my dr that i had a 6.3cm  cyst. im on BC but he said maybe it failed me this month and i ovulated which caused my cyst. he said to rechecked in 6 weeks. ive been feeling unsatisfied with this since my fu appt (3 weeks ago) so i had them send me a copy of my results. i recieved them and found that my ovary was enlarged 7.3cm at larged dimension, and i also have free pelvic fluid. it also stated that "in what  appears to represent my left ovary" there is a 6.3 complex cystic mass within it.my right ovary also had many follicules (largest 1.3cm)

is 6.3cm too  large to just be from ovulating as my dr stated?  should i be more concerned since learning about the free pelvic fluid or is that normal?

i know mosts cysts are benign but all the dr said was if it doesnt go away "we will address it then".... not sure what that means....... just wondering if this is all normal. my mom is pushing for me to go back to the dr for a second opinion but im not sure if that it nessicary.

i also have a history of cysts, not sure to what degree but the earliest u/s i had that found some was when i was 5.

any input would be appreciated.

thx! meg

I went to the hospital on Wednesday Morning. I started having severe pain on my  lower right pelvic. The doctor at the emergency room told me I have a cyst on my right ovary that measures 6.3cm. I am on my way the my OBGYN, so she can discuss what will go on next. This cyst has been growing since January 2008. It got bigger. Does anyone have any suggetion what the doctor will do next? I am very curious.

I suggest you look up my postings.  I just finished up going through what your stuck in.
You need a new ob/gyn.  Try to find a female...seriously.  I know it sounds sexist, but how many female urologists do you know?
At 6.3 cm. this cyst should have been already removed.  At 7 and leaking, and your ob/gyn still wants to wait?  Let him wait on someone else.
A man can NEVER understand a woman's fertility or sex organ issues.  He can never truely know how this stuff feels simply because a he cannot have them.
Finish up with this guy, so you don't have to go through wasting more time finding a new doc, waiting to get seen, getting info, blah blah blah.
Tell your present doc that you don't want to wait.  Get the thing out, and since it's a complex cyst, you want a general surgeon or someone from gyno onc on call or on the case, just in case they are needed.
It is rare for cysts to be cancerous, but with complex cysts there is always increased risk.  That's what I had, and it's benign.
I can't believe he told you to watch and wait with a diagnosed complex cyst.
Free fluid is probably from your leaking cyst.
Get them taken out, and examined so you can get on with your life.  If you have kids, and are done making your family, you should talk with your doc about options for stopping cysts in the future.  If you've been getting them all your life, this could be a recurring problem with you.
Good luck.
NurseMommy.

thanks for the quick response.... its hard to tell what to do, i just have so many questions reeling around in my head..... another is what is the difference if any between having the cyst located on the ovary or IN the ovary, it said mine was within, i wonder if this would change the treatment if its still there after my next U/S.

I agree with your mom. I would want a second opinion and not from the same doctor. I don't like the free pelvic fluid and I think that is too large of a cyst to be from ovulating. There are many ladies on here that know so much more than I do about cysts. I am sure someone will respond soon. I wish you the best and hope you are well soon.  Marie
