lopsided tummy after surgery

I had been led to believe that I had ovarian  cancer and  I had symptoms and all that goes with it Thank GOD when they did my surgery 4 weeks ago it was not Cancer! It was a cystic mas that was cantalope size and had been oozing blood for some time into my abdominal cavity.  I had adhessions gallore! I had a rough go of it for a couple of weeks and just started to feel better about ten days ago.  My problem now is I always have had a big tummy and the old scar from my hysterectomy 9 years ago made a divider line in it which gave my belly the shape of an  W  Now the right side of my W is drooping about 3-4 inches lower than the left side is!! Also it is firmer and  of course it is tender. What  could this be?  I go to the doctor at duke who did my surgery tomarrow for a recheck but this has buigged me to the point that I want your opinion today!! Thanks!

I dont know about the cause of lopsided tummy, I know I have a small indention where mine was done, sometimes that stuff happens after surgery for various reasons, just ask your doctor what he/she thinks.  I mainly wanted to tell you what great news that is that it is benign!!!  WHOOHOOO great news.  I hope you celebrate when you feel better!!!  Shannon

What you are describing is probably a condition of the abdominal wasll called diastasis rectus. It occurs when there is a separation of the abdominal muscle wall from multiple surgeries or pregnancies. probably your recent surgery caused worsening of the problem and more damage to the muscle and tissue there. I have the same shape to my belly. I had 3 pregnancies all C-section deliveries and an abdominal hysterectomy thru the same scar. I am going to have to have open abdominal suregery again in a few wks to remove  my remaining ovary as it has turned into a large mass suspicious for ovarian cancer. My GYN who is also a friend, said it will be a huge mess also because of all the scar tissue, and adhesions that form from multiple surgeries. I am certainly not looking forward to it, or to way my belly will look after surgery.

I went to Duke this morning and the resident said that she definitely could fell the hardness and  she said sh thinks it is fluid in the abdomin beneath the skin and second layer. She sid it may need draining.
I was  released from oncologist though because it is not cance (YEAHHHHH!!!)  but this also means that another surgeon would have to do the fraining,so they told me to see my primary care phy. and let him decide what and when to do it.
I hope you get the same good news I got! NO CANCER!!!   It is so scary to go through.
I got my or report and pathology report today and in the or report it told of  the EXTENSIVE ABDOMINOPRLVIC ADHESIVE DISEASE  that was  all in my abdominal cavity. From what I read it was such a MESS!!!  I guess that is why I was so sick after the surgery and still want little to eat ( but I can live on my fat for months!!LOL)  Please take care and  feel free to shoot me an email to let me know how you get along! ***@****
