I need surjury - what are questions to ask doctor before I get my cysts removed?

I was diagnosed with a cyst on each ovary.  One is a large dermoid cyst with teeth & hair measuring 9cm.  The other one on the other ovary is 6cm blood filled only.  She said I need surjury soon she will remove the dermoid, but only drian the blood filled cyst.  I have never used birth control and never had any operation before.  Blood and pap results came back normal.... Thank God for some good news.  I am seeing a Gynocologist not an OB/GYN she no longer delivers babies....

Can anyone give me a list of question I should ask my doctor as my head is not so clear right now.  I have so much on my mind about this and my nerves don't help much.  THANKS SO MUCH

Hi there

I keep forgetting what to ask as well!  If I were you, I'd write down the questions and take them with you otherwise you'll forget what you wanted to ask.

Some questions are:

- when will the surgery be?
- what kind of surgery (laparoscopy/small incision vs laparotomy/larger incision)
- how long will I be in the hosp for?
- how long will be recovery be (ie off work)
- pain management after your op
- chance of recurrance
- other complications to do with either surgery or cysts

Hope this helps a bit?!

Hello, I'm bumping this up for you. So hopefully more can answer.

When is the surgery? You might want to ask what kind of incision he/she will do. That would help alot with the kind of questions you would need to ask. Especially regarding recovery.
