post-op question??

I am new to this board :)  Had lap surgery on Sunday to remove a 7cm cyst on my left ovary.  Sugery went well.  However, I seem to be recovering okay..but I thought that I would be much better then i am by now.  I felt very constipated so I started taked miralax and colace, and today i have diarrhea.  Is this normal?  I still have a very poor appetite, and have been eating very little.  My energy level is so low, all i want to do is sleep.  I don't know if I am expecting to much of my body or if this is normal!!  I am driving myself crazy.  Any advice would greatly help.

thanks so much,
jill

Somehow the message gets out to us (laparoscopy patients) that it will take a few days and we'll be back to normal!   Silly us for believing them!   I'm on my 17th day, both ovaries with their cysts removed, and I am relieved.   The good news, I feel better every day and as I wrote to TrudieC posted a bit ago, feeling better sometimes make you over do it!  You will notice that each day gets easier.  Pay attention to your body, eat what you feel like eating (I loved white toast with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on it!), comfort food should be eaten as much as you'd like!  The bowels and the bladder go through a bit of trauma from the surgery - they will heal too.  You're not alone, you will be fine.  Thank goodness the worst is over!  Our cysts are gone!   Take care.

Sandy is right.............slow down!!!  REST is what your body is craving!!!  I have had more than 5 surgeries and each one had a different recovery experience.

Whoa.... slow down !! I don't know if you meant you had Laparoscopic surgery or Laparotomy. But either one will take a little longer than 2 days!! Some gals take longer than others, but even the ones that have a fast recovery still take a week or so. If you had the Laparotomy, you're probably looking at closer to 4-6 weeks before you feel totally back to normal. I had the Laparoscopy and felt good after a week, but still was told not to drive or lift anything heavy.

Just sit your little self down and rest !!! Your body is telling you something . Constipation is very common, but if you have diarrhea, I wouldn't worry about it.. And, even though you may look fine externally, it takes a little longer to heal internally. If you take good care of yourself, and get more rest, you'll start feeling much better in a few days..
