ovarian cyst

I just received the results from transvaginal ultrasound Im a 50 yr old female it reads like this: right ovary 1.5x2.6 cm left ovary 3.8x5.0cm.  Septated left ovarian measuring 2.8 x 4.8 cm no significant peritoneal fluid observed,  Hertergeneous uterus with small myometrial cysts, Septated left ovarian cyst.measuring 2.8 cm x 4.8 cm.  I've also had cycles that have very heavy bleeding with tissue in very large size, I've had to have blood trans and my iron level is still very low I'm currently taking iron 3 times a day and have no problem with my stool which is very strange because I always did when I was carring both my daughter and son and taking iron.  Should I be worried and if so about what?

I recently had a large cyst (borderline tumor) removed.  I also have two small fibroids.  My periods have been real heavy for awhile now and because of that my iron is low.  I'm on supplements for it.  Don't really know if the supplements are working as I'm still tired.  I just got my first period post-surgery (cyst removed, fibroids left in) and I'm disappointed to say it's another heavy period.  I was hoping that would improve with the removal of the cyst but it must be the fibroids.  My doctor is not overly worried about my iron as she feels that it can be managed with the supplements.  By the way, they don't cause me to be constipated either.

Hi and welcome to the forum.  It sounds like you have a complex ovarian cyst(a cyst that is fluid filled with solid components inside it).  It is almost to the size when doctors talk about removing it (5cm).  I recommend that you deep a watch on your cyst.  As far as the periods go, it is normal to have unusual periods when you have a cyst.  You period could be heavy, light or normal.  It is also normal to have a period with lots of clots and with bad cramping.  I can't comment on the iron issue, as the only time I had low iron was when I was pregnant with my last child.  Please keep us updated on how you are doing!

To me it sounds like what I was having around 2 years ago. Except I didn't have any low iron issues that I know of. It went on for a year or so every period. I think I went 6 months with out a period once too. Anyway, I think some of it is because of the cysts and some of it because of menopause. I don't know much about the iron deficiency though . . . maybe some one else will know more. Make sure you keep monitoring those cysts. Oh I see the peritoneal fluid was significant . . . this could mean something but I don't know what. Maybe one of them is leaking? Someone here should know more. Sorry I am not more help. The support here is the best!
