Getting nervous

I'm scheduled for a lap in less than two weeks, and from what I'm reading on this forum, even though it's a minimally invasive procedure the recovery period sounds rough....I'm scheduled to go back to work 1 week and a half post surgery....I drive all day since I'm in sales, I also have a 6 month old, and I'm active and work out...how long will it take to resume normal activities...would u suggest having someone to help me out with my son post op??? Please any advice is appreciated, I posted a similar question but got no feedback.
Thanks
Debbie

Thanks..:) I had surgery 15 year sago on my nose...and I had such a hard time waking up from the anesthesia and going to the bathroom...so I think I'm nervous that I'll have the same reaction to the anesthesia this time....

woke up after surgery for just a couple of seconds to i guess 1 minute..
i remeber telling my anesthsologist that my face was itchy, she said its because of the morphin
after that i woke up i guess after 2hours in the recovery room
they will ask you to try to wiggle your toes first then lift your legs when you can they can bring you back to your room
oh and the gas for me  was more painfull than my stich it affected my chest and shoulders specially when standing up but after 3days it will go away

Good luck and God bless you

Thank you so much ladies! That is encouraging news!  I'm a young 36 lol...I'm in pretty good shape in the slimmer side, and I am hoping to try for a third child....my doctor told me that he Is going to try to save my ovary but there is a possibility i might lose it ...I'm more scared of the surgery or anesthesia...I've been put under general 3 times already, but I still get
nervous...did you ladies wake up right after surgery or a few hours later? How was the gas I heard that can be painful? Thanks again this really helps!

taye I'm only 26 and they had to take the ovary. I had my surgery in march and conceived baby #4 in May, you probably have nothing to worry about with having kids some day.  My periods were normal.  Everything seems to balance out.

Hello...I just had lap sept 19 and I am 3 weeks post op and I'm still not normal. I had a cyst removed and my ovary reconstructed. I didn't want them to take my ovary b/c I'm only 23 and have no kids. My doc told me it would take 4 to six weeks before I start feeling normal. Sitting for hours @ a time is still hard for me. I would highly suggest having someone help u. For the first week I was told by my parents and my boyfriend that I walked like a 90 year old woman. I still have to use the motorized carts when I go to walmart b/c it hurts to stand or walk for a long time. U have to it easy and allow ur body time to heal. I still have ppl helping me, and I sit in a chair while cooking. Yes they really do put u under general anestesia but my overall experience hasn't been all that bad but that may be b/c I'm young.

I remember waking up in recovery and some pain and they gave me my pain killers.  I was fine did not feel nausea until I got home and I was so hungry and my husband made me some chicken noodle I took and few bites and had to run to the bathroom and throw up that was not fun!!!  Yea they put you fully out for the surgery.  My cyst was big it was the size of a racket ball.  My doctor had no idea it was going to be that big and it was just so big that it consumed my ovary.  His intentions were never to take my ovary but the cyst had other plans.  As he was cutting the cyst and ovary the cyst burst and it was full of blood.  It was a little crazy waking up and finding I had to loose an ovary, but such is life.  This all happened in March I am now pregnant with baby #4, I guess one ovary didn't slow us down!

I was told by someone who had the surgery done years ago, that she just woke up without problems, no nausea or anything. Sort of like waking up from a good nights sleep.. Since she mentioned nausea, Im sure that would be a common side effect though.

Ok Colleen I will...how big Is your cyst mine is an 8cm dermoid? I was under the impression that you bounce right back after surgery but now  I'm hearing that it takes a while, at least a good two weeks....thank you Kandice 85 for your feedback, i really appreciate it...yeah I figured that since my husband works I'm going to have someone help me throughout the day...so I guess if I'm scheduled for OCt 20 I might have a rough time taking my kids trick or treating...and I was originally going to back to work on nov 1, I'm wondering if that's too soon...also how was it waking up from general anesthesia, do they really knock you out for this? Thank you and god bless and enjoy your little girls.

Hello Deb
I had a lap in March and had my right ovary with cyst removed.  I have twin 2 year old girls at the time they were 1 anyway I high suggest that if you find someone to help you with little one it will really help recovery.  My mom would take my girls at night (because hubby cannot hear a thing when he is sleeping, sleeps like a rock lol) so I didn't have to wake up and then she would bring them back in the day.  But even during the day it was hard because I was extremely tired.  That is one thing I remember really well you are really fatigued for about the first two weeks post-op.  I started working out after the follow up appt with the Dr. Just wanted to get the ok from him, I think that was like 3 weeks post-op.  But I would say it took me personally a good month to gain back normalcy.  I hope everything goes smoothly for you.  God Bless
