Is a simple cyst something to worry about?

I have suffered with uterine fibroids since I was 25 years old when I had my first myemectomy.  I had my 2nd myemectomy at 33.  Now at 39 I am facing more fibroids and a simple ovarian cyst.

My mother is currently undergoing chemo for ovarian cancer.  Is my simple cyst something to worry about.

I have no children so between the scar tissue from my previous surgeries, fibroids I currently have and pain from all of it I am facing a hysterectomy.

With all of this my only concern is the cyst.  I go back in 6 weeks for another US.

Thank you Sandymac and TrudieC

TrudieC - Yes I am in pain.  If you do not mind me asking, have you also had fibroids removed.  I ask because I see you mentioned previous scar tissue.  I thought I was the only one or one of few with the scar tissue.

How are you feeling now?

Your doctor is taking the right course.  Are you in pain?  I just had surgery to remove a very painful16 cm simple fluid filled cyst plus my right ovary and tube.  Because of previous scar tissue and the size I had to have a vertical cut.  It had been 3 months and the cyst was just growing, not going away.  I'm sure you have discussed your family ovarian cancer situation - your doctor will help you to make the right decision.  Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi,
It may put your mind at ease to go to the top right of this page and look at the Health Pages..There is a lot of information on Ovarian Cysts.

It is my understanding that a simple cyst is not malignant, it is fluid filled. Of course with your family history, you want a Dr. that really is pro active.  You are still young and cysts are very common . Many times they simply dissolve on their own. That's probably why they want to wait 6 weeks to re-do the US. Was that a transvaginal US?  They thought mine was solid at first and I was told I could simply monitor it .. I said now way ( I don't do waiting very well, furthermore I'm postmenopausal and it's a bit different).

Try to not worry ..Take a look at the Health Pages and you'll have lots more information and keep us posted.

Take care,
Sandy
