Is this typical for ovarian cysts??

I am an active athlete and have a normal "schedule" since i first started at age 12. Around late December, early January I think I may have scratched the inside of my vaginal wall or maybe even my cervix, as I rushed to put a larger than normal tampon in. Not only did I scratch myself with the applicator, the tampon went in sideways..which probably didn't help things. Since then I have an increased amount of discharge with little streaks of blood in stretchy see-through discharge. I went to my GYNO and they seemed unconcerned about my story, but they did make me get an abdominal ultrasound which did show me to have 2 ovarian cysts both 2cm in diameter. They said to watch and wait. I still have slimey discharge without blood now, but it has yellow/cloudy stuff mixed in.  It doesn't smell foul, but almost sweet/salty? I also have no pain. Sometimes lower back aches but thats it. Is this typical for ovarian cysts? Or could I have an infected cut inside me?

ADDITIONAL INFO:
I have my period every 10/14 days; I have had some brownish sticky, thick discharge before periods, it almost reminds me of sludge before some of my periods; I am a virgin; no chances of SDI's or STD's; on going issue for about 7 months now; periods are light, and unpainful, sometimes not even filling a tampon.

Thank you for such a quick response! Sorry for the tmi but the period blood I have is rarely bright red liquid, it's mostly darker/red brown and gooey... If it is ever red it is watery with stringy red discharge. Is this normal? I don't really want to go back to my gyno if it's not an issue to be concerned about, they didn't impress me last time I went. Thank you again!

Welcome to the community. It is hard to say if the cysts or the irritated cervix are the cause of your discharge but I would not worry about it since it isn't causing any serious symptoms. The cysts may explain your occasional back pain. These cysts are small and will likely go away in 2 to 3 cycles.

The thick, sticky brown discharge prior to periods sounds like old blood which is normal. It is odd though that you have periods every 10 to 14 days but at least they are very light. But very athletic girls and women can have lighter periods but they tend to be less frequent too.
