Menstrual Cramps After Cyst/Ovary Removal

On 3/3 I had my right ovary and a kickball sized cyst removed laproscopically.  I was kind of hoping for a couple of month absence of my period :-), but like clockwork, I started my period only 2 days late (this morning).

Here's the problem - I've always had relatively painful periods, but this morning I woke up and felt like I was coming down with the flu - shaky and achy all over.  Then the period started and a couple hours later really heavy cramping, a little more clotting than usual, and extreme exhausting.  The symptoms are pretty typical of my period, but much worse this month than that have been in 15 years.

Has anyone else who had surgery like this experience more severe periods afterward?  Was it only temporary or is this just something I'm going to have to learn to deal with.  My doc is not very free with the pain pills but I really don't like the thought of going through 5-7 sleepless nights a month.

As always - thanks for the input!

Hi

When i got my period after having a laproscopic surgery for two small follicles on my ovary, i bled for quite awhile.  the doctor told me that it was totally normal, I think it is your body sort of healing and purging from the surgery.  however, i have never had my ovary removed, so not sure about that.  i would try and talk to the doctor about it though, as you want to make sure you don't have an infection, etc, especially considering you felt flu like symptoms.  if your periods are usually pretty intense, then i would imagine it would be more intense after a surgery.  but definitely talk to your doctor about it.

i hope you start feeling better soon!  this whole cyst thing is just so frustrating!  i know how you feel!
