Excruciating pain leading up to period that has now subsided?! Is this common w/ cysts?

I have never had a really heavy period and never had blood clots but today my period came on full force and with lots of clotting and a really heavy flow! Ive gone through 5 tampons (completely filled) in 7 hours! I usually go through 4  tampons within 15 hours on a heavy day and it hasnt even been 1/2 of the day yet. I have been having excruciating pain in my lower back for over a week now and very bad pelvic pain for the past 4 days but a few hours after I got my period this afternoon the pain subsided!?!  I have read that it is common when having an ovarian cyst to have pain right before or when your period starts and shortly after it stops but my pain started a week ago and just got worse leading up to my period. Can I expect the pain to come back when my period ends? The pain I was having was very painful to the point where I was crying a few times a day for the past few days when it had gotten really bad.. I was going to go to the ER it was hurting so bad today but then my period came on like a hurricane and the pain subsided?! What are your experiences with having a cyst and pain throughout your cycle?

I have a 2 cm complex cyst and I had a similar experience with my period this past August.  My next period was normal.  I spoke to my gyne and she thought it was a multiple of causes, stress being number and also the cyst contributing to it.  The best thing to do is to talk to your gyne about it.

Take care!

Yes, endometriosis sounds like a very strong probability.  Med Help actually has a forum for that and you might benefit from asking the ladies there about some of their symptoms.  Good luck!

I can't really comment on the cysts and pain with a cycle; however, I wanted to respond and ask you - have you seen a doctor yet?  You may have had a cyst that burst, you might have endometriosis, many things.  Only a doctor will be able to tell you exactly what is going on.  On the right hand side of this page, is Health Pages, you can click on that and go to the cysts section for more information. Good Luck
