My Experience after Laparotomy surgery for ovarian cyst

Hello, my name is Taye and I am a 23 year old female with no children and I went to th er one night and a 5 cm teratoma cyst was found on my right ovary. I was informed that it needed to be removed surgically. I had my surgery on Mon Sept 19 and I had to be at the hospital @ 8am. The doctor had informed me that he would try to to get it out laparoscopically but if I wanted a better chance of saving my ovary that there was a 90% chance of him having to do the open surgery. Well, I had the open procedure. I was in the hospital until wednesday and this is how my experience went.
Day one: When I woke up and was 4 hour after, the sugery took 2 and i was sleep for 2. I woke up with a catheter and in a little pain. I was briefed about which surgery had to be done and transferred to a room. I didnt have much of an appetite so I ate alot of jello for the 1st day. Stomach was very numb and swollen. I was asked to sit up on my own while in my bed (extremely painful) but I had a button to push for pain killers. I was hard to sleep though, nurses were checking me every three hours so my first night was kind of bad.
Day two: The doc came to visit me very early that morning. He told me that I needed to stay another day. I had my catheter removed... I didnt like it, I couldnt feel if i was peeing or not. Later on that day I had to get up and walk around 3x's a day for at least 10 mins each. Prepare yourself for the pain but it helps with the gas and constipation. Still just eating jello.
Day three: I went home that morning, I had a nurse put me in a wheelchair and take me to my car where my boyfriend was waiting. In the ride home, every bump, hole or lump will hurt and so will the seatbelt for a couple of days. Try putting a pillow between you and seatbelt. I was given hydrocone for pain pills and I pretty much slept the whole day but still didnt my walking. I hadnt experienced much constipation but I took some stool softeners.

One week post up: Staples were remove during my check up with my doc. He said that I was recovering great and I had even lost 7 pounds. Still not able to drive but Im not taking as many painkillers.

11 days post: Doing alot better, walking better and eating normally. INVEST IN SOME SWEAT PANTS AND PANTIES THAT GO OVER PANTY LINE. Jeans are a no go... stomach still swollen and numb but painful. The nerves are growing back so just relax and take a pain killer. Been taking short trips to the store and had to get a motorized cart to get around and am still tired when i get home. Energy levels are way down, everything makes me tired. Needless to say, things werent as hard as I thought they would be but be prepared for some pain and little energy. I will say that Six weeks should be just enough time recover.
I hope this will help some who will have to have this surgery.
Thanks
