Recent Ovarian Cyst Rupture

I went to ER last week with severe abdominal pain that would not quit and got progressively worse. I had it about 9 hours before my husband MADE me go to ER. I thought maybe I was having a gall bladder attack. I do have a history of gall stones. Was curious though why I was not vomiting. Anyway the Dr. also was convinced it was my gall bladder. He told me we would do surgery either that night or in the morning. Then he ordered a CT Scan. I was admitted to surgical floor and about 2am the nurse came in and told my husband that they had seen a ruptured ovarian cyst on the CT.  I was released later that day with basiclly NO other information. I asked the nurse if I had other cysts and she told me she didn't know. I have more questions than answers. How long will the pain last?  Though not severe it is bothersome and I have to return to work tomorrow. Were does the cyst and fluid go after the rupture? Will I have more of these?  I didn't know that I even had this one. I haven't seen a gyno in about 8 yrs due to poor insurance. Any info would be appriciated. Thank you.

also is it normal for my abdomen to be bloated and shouldn't the dr. have given me antibiotics?

Hello from your fellow Hoosier.  It is so aggravating when we don't get the answers that we want.  When a cyst ruptures, the body absorbs the fluid into the body.  It is possible that you may get another cyst.  Common symptoms of ovarian cysts include, but not limited to: bloating, cramping, back pain, thigh pain, nausea, problematic periods, and many others as well.  If I were you, I would get an appointment with your gynecologist and have her answer your question.  It is possible that you are feeling symptoms (mentioned above) because you have other cysts.  Good luck and please keep us updated on how you are doing.  Prayers coming your way.

Hi I also have ended up in ER with symptoms like yours!! The pain from my last ruptured ovarion cyst lasted about 3 days. The first day it was unbearable, second day was a little better and the third day it subsided quite a bit and I was able to return to work with little problem. My suggestion is not only talk to your gyn but also rest and drink plenty of fluids. I unfortunately have recurring cysts but have had enough to know when they rupture and what to do. As far as the insurance thing goes I didn't have insurance for years either but I found a doctor who will see me on a sliding scale. In other words they base my payment on my income (which is currently unemployment). Just a suggestion. Or maybe you can also find what's called a physician's directory to find a doctor that will take you on little or no payment! Hope you find the answers you're looking for!!

Thank you so much for your comments. I will be seeing my Dr. in May. Am feeling much better today with a little pain and bloating.  Was able to return to work this morning. I am hoping that this is the only time I ever have to go through this. I feel so bad for you women who this has become a way of life for and pray for you all.
