Am I getting better or worse?

Hi there!!

I had a laparotomy to remove my left ovary and some endometriosis alomost 2 weeks ago.(It will be 2 weeks on the 31st), I ended up in the ER last week because of how bad 1 of my incisions hurt.  They said I had celulitis around that incision, gave me some antibiotics and sent me home.  I have been on the antibiotics for a week now, and my incision doesn't feel any better at all.  I did develop a cold and I have been coughing and it hurts like crazy, doesn't feel any better at all, and really feels worse then did it did last week.  I don't kow if it is because I am coughing it hurts so bad, or if the cellulitis hasn't gone away with the meds they gave me.  I don't know what to do, and ws wondering if anyone had a surgery like mine and is having these problems, and what I should do about it.  Thank You!!!

How long was it before you noticed the sharp pains? I had my surgery Tuesday, February 15th and I've been feeling the sharp pains near my incision ever since (4 days now). I can see there is a small bruise around the pelvin incision area, but I feel that most of the pain is coming from the bikini incision area, which is harder to see, because there's a larger band-aid over the incision.

I have barely left my bed, and trying to do anything I can to minimize movement...I think I am going to call my doctor Tuesday, after the holiday, and ask about the pains.

Can an infection develop almost instantly??

Please call your doctor right away.  With my first lapartomy I did develop similar symptoms and they had to cut the incision and put in a drain for awhile to take care of the infection.  You know your body best and I feel confident that your situation needs further care.  Cellulitis is serious when it isn't handled properly.  You may need a different antibiotic or a drain to help relieve the infection.  Call your doctor TODAY!!!!  Please keep us posted on how you are doing!

Have you spoken to your doctor who did the surgery about the problems you are having ?  I would ask just to be sure.  Could it be an infection at the surgery site ?  Please don't wait too long before seeing a doctor.  Good luck, Sharon
