Whats the difference between an ovary ..... Plz help

Please could someone explain to me what the difference to a doctor saying you have an ovary with 2 small follicles in. One letter (I have had 5 scans to date to say I have a left ovary) and in another letter it says  . . . "therefore, reasonably assume that Mrs? does in fact have some residual ovarian tissue.
In 2005 I had a bilateral oompherectomy (removal of both ovaries) but on histology it does state no recognizable left ovary or tubal but it said I had Woltard cell nests, I think he removed this thing ie: woltard cyst and assumed my ovary was inside as this was also on the left side. The 5 scans I have had state left ovary normal in apperarance and right ovary has been removed.  I had a further operation in May 2009 and a tiny piece of ovarian tissue was removed but was told it was a mess in there and too dangerous to remove anymore.
My own GP and a few other doctors have told me an ovary and functioning residual ovarian tissue are the same thing?? All I need to know is 'have I got an ovary' Please, please help I cannot afford to go private and need these questions answered. Many thanks in advance Lisa. P.S Since my last operation in 2009 my GP has referred me to a different hospital out of my area I didn't ask for this so is this his way of telling me he does not have any trust in my local hospital either??

I really sounds like you may have ovarian remnant syndrome which occurs when tissue is left over after a previous oopherectomy.  I have heard of it happening before.  It is a more rare occurrence which is probably the reason you doctor wants you to be seen a a larger hospital who has doctors who have dealt with this condition before.   Here are a couple of links about this condition:

I think you really need to follow-up as your doctor has planned.  Best wishes!

Sounds like the difference between an ovary and part of an ovary.  Residual ovarian tissue would be part of an ovary, that (obviously) was not removed during the oompherectomy.  And if it is still producing some follicles, presumably that means some eggs or at least a chance of some eggs.
