What is wrong with me?

Hello

I have been secretly worrying myself sick and then I found this forum....
I am almost 50 and I have been having irregular periods for almost two years. Blood work last year inidicated that I am perimenopausal and ultrasounds last year found uterine fibroids, and a cystic mass on my left ovary. My CA125-5 was normal. The cystic mass was monitored and although it was of varying sizes and number the doctors were happy to not have it investigated.

A recent blood work showed elevated C19-9. Ultrasound last week showed an increase in the number of fibroids, an enlarged uterus, a septated cyst on my right ovary and a complex cyst on my left ovary.
I have been experiencing pain through my rectum and vagina, marked increase in flatulence and bloating, uncomfortable pressure on my pelvis and lower back, change in my bowel habits and problems with urination. Some of these things I thought were normal for getting older, but now I am worrying.
I have had painful and increasing heartburn/indigestion and nausea. I am not sure if it is my woryying that is causing this or if something sinister is going on. I am very emotional and feel as though I am losing the plot more and more each day.  I am having more blood work nest week and then back to my GP for assessment of where to go from here.

Help!!!

My heartfelt advice, as I just went through this.... is get to a gynecologic surgeon right away and be properly worked up..if nothing else to allay your fears!.  Your symptoms are most likely caused by the cysts..I did not experience pain, but I had the full feeling and my lower back hurt, my bowels were affected..all because these huge cysts I had were displacing my pelvic organs, not to mention I had to pee like every hour because they were compressing my bladder.  You probably need these taken care of..they are most likely benign...but most importantly get to a gynecologic surgeon and do not leave his/her office until you feel very comfortable that you know what is going and what you can expect!  Worrying is the worst part!!  Much luck to you!!

Jaffle, It sounds like you are being put through the ringer.  I am 51 and perimenopausal too.  Isn't it fun??? My ovaries make cysts for a living and finally I had one out (ovary and tube) last month.  My symptoms have abated for now and it is such a relief.  The anxiety you are feeling could very well be causing your gastro symptoms which muddy the waters and make you think the worse.  Try to relax until you have more information and know that I understand what you are going through.  Best wishes.

I am so sorry you are having such a hard time.  The cysts and fibroids can definitely cause the symptoms you are describing.  I have you seen a gyn yet?  Have they given you something to help with the pain?  Please keep us posted.
