nowhere else to turn

like many others, i am sure, have posted in groups/forums and have had no response. i am hoping i can get some answers here.

my husband is military - which means deployments - which means i am not sexually active and i am not pregnant. i am 32 years old, no birth control, no medications - not even OTC ones. i am just weird like that.

since i was 14 and started my period, it has NEVER been normal/regular/whatever word you want to use. i even went a year without a period; this was also a very stressful year of my life, so i have chalked it up to that.

long story short? i have been regular like clockwork, just about, for the past year. again, i am a weird one....because this makes me insanely happy. i feel normal and i feel like a real woman who has a period regularly. i have a period every 45 days. NOW, i have been spotting for the past few days now. nothing on my panties, nothing on my pad - just when i wipe, the toilet tissue has a TEENY tiny bit. i did what i call a tampon check [just inserted a tampon for about 5 minutes] to see if maybe my period was starting a week early [i am scheduled to start next week] and there is blood. not a lot, and some of it is brown, which i am assuming means old blood. has anyone else had this?

i know this is an ovarian cyst community - but hoping someone could possibly help me out that has gone through this. i have severe panic disorder - meaning i have panic attacks - which also makes me scared to go and see a doctor. i did make an appt. but cannot be seen for another three weeks. in the past, i have had ovarian cysts, but i do not get full on pain like some. i used to, though, about a decade or more ago.

any suggestions or ideas as to what this could be?

Welcome to the community. It is hard to say what is causing the spotting but since your period used to be irregular (except for this past year), the underlying cause of the irregularity may also explain this spotting. If you do not have other symptoms and are not at increased risk for gynecologic cancers (which are rare in women without risk factors), then it is likely nothing concerning.

Of course if it continues, it would be a good idea to see your doctor to check for the underlying cause whether it be a primary gynecologic problem (such as an ovarian cyst or uterine fibroid or polyp) or a secondary one such as a thyroid disorder or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or some other condition that affects the menstrual cycle.

Keep us posted on the situation.
