pain near my ovarian cyst

Hi, a little ove a year ago my dr. found a cyst on my left ovary. I was told that it was about the size of a golf ball. Well she said that they are very common and not to worry about and it most likely will disapear by itself and that was the last thing she ever said about it. (I'm not going back to her again!!) Anyways, it never gave much problems, except during my period. But lately, I have been having pains in my lower left abdomen during and inbetween my periods, and about 3 days ago my dog was in my lap and when he jumped down his paw was right in that spot and when he pushed off, he used all his weight, (about 90-100lbs) and it brought me to tears. Well ever since then, the pain has increased dramatically and every time I have to pee, (about 10 times day) I get this sharp extremely painful pain in that area a split second before I pee. Could my dog done something to my cyst? Or could it be my bladder? Help please, my dr. appointment isn't until next month, and this pain hurts me everyday.

I have the exact same symptoms you are describing - and, you are right - it is the worst pain in the world - and very difficult to describe to someone.  Mine is the result of cysts on my left ovary.  One has burst - but there is another one.  I have had a CT scan and ultrasound and the Dr is monitoring me right now to see if this cyst grows.  I will have another ultrasound in 6 weeks.  My Dr also thinks my extreme pain at times is due to ovarian torsion - but, not confirmed yet.  I am 45 years old, so if things remain the same after the next ultrasound, the Dr is suggesting that I have the left ovary removed.  I don't want to have surgery - but, I also cannot live with the pain.

You need to see a Dr right away because this type of pain is not normal and your body is trying to tell you something.  Hopefully, they will send you for an ultrasound asap.

Good luck to you!

Since the pain is excruciating, I suggest you see a gynecologist for an ultrasound. If the cyst is leaking or has ruptured, it can cause severe pain (and possibly infection). And if a cyst gets large, it can press on other organs causing other symptoms. Most cysts are benign (non-cancerous) and most go away on their own. But since you have been having these symptoms for 3 months, it needs to be investigated. Let us know what you find out.

Ovarian torsion is the twisting of the ovary due to some other issue.  Sometimes, ovarian cysts or fibromas will also cause ovarian torsion.

The classic symptom of ovarian torsion is the sudden onset of extreme lower abdominal pain that radiates to the back, side and thigh. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation can also occur.

Drs often try to shrink the cyst and monitor it for a few cycles hoping it will dissipate without surgery.  And, yes, a cyst could burst - that's pretty painful. The concern when it ruptures is possible infection or hemorrhaging.

Definitely keep a mindful eye on the cyst - good luck to you!!

I had the same pain in my left side of my groin area, sharp shooting down my left thigh and lower left back pain.  I ended up having a 10cm mass on my left ovary that was malignant.  The doctor couldn't tell if my other parts were infected so I decided before surgery to have a complete hysterectomy should there be any doubt.  Fortunately, everything came back from pathology negative and my mass was of low-possible malignancy.  No regrets though, as i told my husband I do not want to go through this again should another cyst develop.

I am 2 weeks post-operation via c-section.  I have the steri-strips and I am healing quite nicely.  I feel so much better not having all the other pain.  I am already off my pain meds but my stomach is itchy from the strips.  Hopefully, they will fall off soon.

Go to the doctor as soon as you discover pain.  You have to be persistant and get second opinions if you need to.  Don't ignore your body.  I see women on here who can't get an appointment for weeks or months.  Do not settle for that.  Find a new doctor if you have to.  It's your body and God is trying to tell you something is wrong and get it checked out.  It is not normal to have pain.

Best of luck and let us know your outcome!

what is an ovarian torsion?
when my dr found the cyst via ultrasound she said it was 7.2 cm. then she refered me to another dr who put me on birthcontrol to hopefully shrink it. but she only put me on them for 3 months. and she never mentioned my cyst again. so now i am going to go to another dr. next month, (hopefully sooner) and i am going to demand that he looks at my cyst. although, after i had that horrific pain the other day i haven't been in pain since. i have had like the feeling of being full since that pain. what happens after a cyst bursts? does it just go away?

jpm25, thank you very much! i hope everything works out for you!

Thank you hopeshell and des84, i agree that something is not right but i have to wait until at least tomorrow before i can even call my dr. office to get in sooner:(

Well yesterday right after I posted this question, I had such a terrible pain in that area, out of nowhere. It was probably the worst pain i have ever felt. Standing was almost impossible, sitting in the cradle position, almost impossible. It seemed to start i guess where my left ovary is and kind of radiated through out my whole abdomen. I tryed to describe the pain to my friend, but it is hard to describe it. It felt like everything in my lower abdomen, wanted to fall out. Or like someone was taking my insides and twisting and pulling. I was getting ready to go to the er, when the pain slowly went away. It lasted about 30-40 minutes. After the pain was mostly gone, i got really dizzy and hot and sweaty. Then it was over. Since then, I have had like a bruised piercing pain that isn't really bad just a pain to let me know it hurts. Did my cyst rupture? What happens after that happens? I have to wait until tomorrow to try to get to my dr earlier, (they are closed on sundays) and the er here in my town will just give me pain meds and tell me to go home. Can anyone help?

I also agree that you really need to call your doctor and get in to be seen as soon as possible.  It is impossible to know the cause without some tests.  But, pain like you describe means something is going on.  Please don't wait!

you should really try to get in sooner, espicially if you are in so much pain. it may be something small like that the dog bruised you or it may be your cyst
