post surgery and weight

Hello, I am 8 days post op from laparotomy surgery to remove an ovarian cyst. Since then I have lost 9 pounds and I was wondering if this is normal and if anyone else has had a similar experience. Also, my stomach is now swollen beyond belief, how long will it take for my stomach to go back down to my normal size?

hi, my stomach was so swollen it didnt go down for about 2 weeks!! the shoulder pain is normal, many women have it after surgery, its the gas that causes it, and maybe being crouched over while walking can cause it aswell.
I blame my weight loss on the hospital food!!
If you see a drastic amount of weight loss i think its better to speak with your doctor.

No it isnt infected. My scar isnt really that bad actually, its really thin and healing well. My next check up will be in 3 weeks but my docs says Im doing great.
As far as the shoulder pain, yes i am having that. But Im not sure if it has something to do with how I was laying in my hospital bed and the fact that I had surgery on my shoulder a year ago.

Just had open surgery 6 days ago.. Im also eating normal.. Weight loss for some woman is normal because of the removal of the cyst and also because you just had a major surgery and your body is going through so many things... Bloating is also normal my obgyn said it sould go down in a couple of weeks...

Do you guys have shoulder pain after open surgery..?
My shoulder hurts so badly the pain id worst than my stich

I do think I read something about swelling somewhere, but im not sure how much would be normal.

Does it appear to be infected? When is your next checkup? Best of luck to you, please keep us posted..

I had the open surgery done and I have been eating and drinking normally. I got my appetite back the day after my surgery. My cyst was only 5 cms so not really big.

Dont know if the weight loss is normal. Was your cyst big? Could it account for some of the weight? Are you eating/drinking normally? Change in toilet habbits?

If you had laparoscopic surgery (keyhole), they would have pumped your stomach full of co2 gas, which would make you swell up. Light exercise is supposed to help it go away, but it will probably take weeks for it to disappear completely.
