wrist pain

OK i'm not going to lie here, i spend the majority of my time at a PC, my uni work is computer based, and my social life is mostly computer based.  My hobbies are computer based, i'm a nerd.  But several month's ago i started getting crippling pain in my wrists intermitantly.  While typing my wrists are fine however, its normally when i'm doing wrist action other then typing, like carrying trays etc at work, or handwriting.

I've already got wrist rests etc to stop my wrists getting worse, and when i started to learn typing i was given a few exercises to prevent these problems in the fingers.  I've also got a powerball at the moment which i've been using to help stop the onset of this pain, but on some days it will come randomly and it can be a major pain.  I just want to know really if there are any exercises or supplements or something i can use to reduce the severity or how long this pain can last for.

I have been meaning to book a doctors appointment about this for a while, but i had it drummed into me as a child that, unless i think im dying don't waste the doc's time.

Hi Wowfood,

Welcome to our Pain Management Forum. I'm sorry you are having wrist pain.

My initial thought would be carpel tunnel due to all the activities you described. It use to be thought that a vitamin supplement would control it. It has become apparent that that thought was a fallacy.

If not it could be a tendonitis, There are so many conditions that effect joints that are subject to repetitive motion. Ice and NSAID's can be effective but this should be determined by your PCP. And I don't know who taught you that you should avoid physicians unless you are dying but I strongly disagree. Ppl that avoid medical care often end up "catching" diseases and conditions that are too far advanced to be effectively treated. I encourage you to make an appointment with a competent physician and have your wrist pain diagnosed.

Best of luck to you. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. And as always take care of yourself. Tuck
