It is a good idea to call your dr to see if he has any good ideas on what would be causing the burning pain. I hope you get some answers.
Hang in there

Hi GrampyHiltz,

It's good to hear from you again but not good to hear about your new pain. I am so sorry. You have more than enough on your already full plate.

Burning calf pain can be from a number of issues. Yes one could be from a spinal structural issue which I know you have bee dealing with several of those issues. However it could be unrelated to your spine and should not so quickly be assumed it's just an additional symptom.

Do you have swelling or redness in the area? "Burning" pain is usually nerve related, but not always. I would certainly want to rule our a phlebitis or a thrombophlebitis. Put simply these terms mean inflammation in one of more blood vessels (phlebitis) or inflammation in the vessels with a clot formation (thrombophlebitis). These can occur for several reasons, one of them being inactivity or prolonged sitting. It's always a concern post-op.

Please remember these are only my suggestions and personal opinions. I don't know for sure what maybe causing your calf pain. But I do know that you should have this pain evaluated with your medical history.

So my dear please do not ignore this symptom. Report it to your PCP today or if the clinic happens to be closed please call your local Urgent Care Clinic or your local ER. Let them determine how urgent they think this symptom may be.

Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates with interest. And as always take care of yourself.

My Best to You,
~Tuck

Hi Grampy:  I'm sorry this has started up on you.  You'd think you have enough to deal with without adding this on to the mix.  I agree with Sherry.  This probably does have something to do with your back.  But the only way to be sure is to ask your doctor.

I know when I fill out my little pain quality survey I'm asked if the pain is burning so it does have some meaning to the doctors.  Nerves, perhaps?  Just a guess on my part.

So after you've talked to your doctor, please let us know how it's going.  You don't check in very often.  At least check back for more responses.  One of our medically savvy members may have a fairly good idea what this is.  So do check back.

Good to see you again,
Sara

Hi Grampy,

I'm so sorry that you are having this additional pain in your calf. That is so very painful whether you are sitting, lying or walking!!

There's no way for us to tell you for sure, but I have a feeling that it may very well be related to your multiple back problems!  I hope that you will call your Dr. on Tuesday ( unless they are open on Monday, mine are ALL closed for the Holiday) and let him know about this additional problem. I know that your surgeon will want to know EVERYTHING that is affecting your pain levels.

There is also the possibility that you have pulled a muscle some way. Either way I know it is EXTREMELY painful and troublesome for you.

I hope that you and your family will be able to have a Happy and Safe 4th of July at your home!!!

I will be looking forward to getting an update on your calf pain.....Sherry
