Hi All!
I have been suffering for the past 18 months with terrible upper abdominal pain. I had my gallbladder removed laproscopically last Dec.
All my blood tests, ct/mri/ultrasound, scopes show normal.
The doctor is now thinking that scar tissue/adhesions are the cause of my pain and the diaphragm muscle itself is getting inflamed and very painful. The pain is just under my ribs....(where the incision from the surgery is) and can feel like somebody's inflated a balloon there.....
Is surgery the only option for the scar tissue???? or pain management.......
I am currently only taking panadeine forte and tramadol for the pain.....but when it gets out of control I need endone....(if I don't end up in the ED that is)
Please help
Please excuse my tardy response. I am sorry to hear about your chronic pain.
Surgery can be helpful with the removal of adhesion. However surgery caused the adhesions and you'll require special attention to make sure it doesn't occur to this degree again. There are now some new products on the market that can be effective in reducing the formation of scar tissue (adhesions). Talk to your surgeon about these products. Be sure he is skilled and experienced in the use of the products and as well as the procedure.
Have you had any imaging done...such as a scan with contrast? I would also want this done just to have a "look." Be as sure as you can that your pain is related to the previous surgery. In my opinion a second opinion can only be beneficial.
Please let us know what you discover and share with us what decisions you make.I'll look forward to hearing from you again soon.
Take Care,
