Pain medication refill

If my dr wrote ok to fill (in order to get me back in sync with perscription refill) mind you he only wrote ok to fill.

Will this when I make my appointment for that date 29 days later, will the pharmacy go from the date of ok to fill or will he go to original fill date?

I ask now in case the dr will have to write something more detailed on the next perscription?

I find the entire process of being treated as a criminal to be just enough. I'm a caregiver of a disabled vet, have had two deaths of siblings in within 5 months, was traveling in order to see these brothers before their passing, my dr went on vacation, my perscription had gotten out of sync. Now I'm concerned the pharmacist will not start from the date of OK to fill.

I hate to break it to the pharmacys and dea that other than pain we also sometimes care for others and in life stuff happens. Yet we are now bound to not being able to have a refill, when others are dying and you can't be in town.

I truly dont understand how out of control this has gone. Our hands are tied to be required to be home every 30 or 29 days. Sometimes we just can't. And constantly the people in charge, don't care!

Thank you, my disabled veteran has so much more than pain... It's difficult to be a caregiver and pretend everything is sunshine and rainbows.

It certainly doesn't help with being paranoid to go to the same pharmacy to anticipate any problems because of the idiots on the street.

We are not all "faking, selling, diverting? Dr shopping.. All words learned recently...

I hope the dea will realize that they are actually pushing more innocent people to the streets to get help. In they're studies, I wonder how many over doses on street drugs can be linked to a person in pain unable to receive legitimate help.

The dea should be working on the meth problem. Not the innocent...

I thank you for your help!

Your dates all look good. There should be no issue that I can see. Sorry I made an assumption when I read your post - always a bad thing to do.

Yes, you should see your Physician on the 13th and be able to fill your RX following your appointment. You're good to go. :0)

I do know how confusing it can be - especially when your husband has pain issues too.

Good luck my dear. I hope you'll keep in touch with our community.

In my state you may be allowed 28 days. I usually go 28 or 29 due to if not in stock, dr goes on seminar. My dr has no one to fill in. He runs his office alone. He changes his hours. Half days Friday's. Now he is doing a closed every other Monday and Friday. Without putting signs up, or on his answering machine. Which I feel sorry for new patients who don't know. My dr also has a sign to come in for refills 28 days....

Ok,

Here is part of the confusion.... My dr went on vacation.
I had a perscription due 8/17/15.  It was filled early for his vacation 8/14/15
31 days in August
On 9/15/15 I had my perscription filled with OK to fill.

So when should my appointment be? Per my dr and I, I am back in sync if I return 10/13/15...

I'm very confused. .( I also go to va for spouse who is on many medications, I'm losing track)...

I'm confused now. LOL

Maybe I should have asked what is the date you last had your script filled and what is the date the RX was written and what is the "ok to fill" date?

I may have assumed something that wasn't correct. I assumed you are after the "ok to fill date" - thus expending the usual 28-29 refill schedule. Is that correct?

I probably said more than I needed to - as when all is said and done-  the pharmacy is only concerned with maintaining the 28-29 days between fills. They don't look back to see if you went longer between fills than normal. They have no real schedule as long as it's that 28-29 days between RXs.

I hope I haven't confused you more.

Sorry I confused you. Thanks for letting me know.

Let's try again. A pharmacy will go by the last date that your RX was actually  filled. So "if ok to fill" date is at least 28-30 days from your last fill it should be okay to have it filled. If your last fill date was 45 days ago the pharmacy doesn't care. You "new" schedule will begin on the date you filled your current RX.

When I talked about the 7 days I was referring to how old the paper RX is. The actual date the RX was written. I wondered if it's a 60 day old paper RX a pharmacy may question it. It may need to be a current paper RX - but how current I am not certain.

I also know that some PM patients are lucky enough to only have to see their PMP every 90 days as they are given 3 paper RXs, all dated on the date they were written but with the words, "Fill on XX date."  Some pharmacies won't honor those scripts, others will.

Look at the date your RX was written, not the okay to fill date. That's what I was talking about.

I would make my next appt 26-28 days after you are able to fill this RX.

Did I explain better - or confuse you more?

Thank you,

You kind of confused me, the last date, was the date of OK to fill. So, I will make my next appointment from that date.

Or will the pharmacy go back two months and deny? I have found that it doesn't matter what Drs say, the pharmacy has last word...?

Yet to clarify the date of OK to fill is the last pick up date of my medication.

Can you clarify? You lost me on that 7 day comment, I can say in California that would never happen, pick up a perscription 7 days too soon....

Hello and Welcome too our Pain Management Forum.

You echo the sentiments of many of us. The DEA doesn't get it - and worse they really don't care. I hear you!

The pharmacy should go from the date your last RX was filled - and not the "ok to fill" date - at least that's been my experience. I live in one of the toughest and unfriendly, opiate-phobic states in the Union. I think you'll be okay. It's that time between RXs that brings the most concerned.

I really don't think you'll have an issue - unless the RX is old. Pharmacies cannot and will not fill an "old" opiate RX. I've heard it was 7 days but that can't be true as mine fills it 10-12 days after it was written. No they do not  specify fill date. Long story - but I have no problems with filling them.

Life does happen to those of us with chronic pain. My home state is 1,100 miles away. My PMP is here. I like to visit my family and have run into the same issues you do. Trying to juggle travel dates with our appts and RX dates is more than difficult. Goodness help us if we have a family emergency out of state. We have to chose which is most important. For me there is no choice. I cannot function without opiate therapy.

So good luck to you, our friend in pain. Please let us know your experience. I hope you'll be active in our community. We learn from one another and offer support. What better place to be than here in the Pain Management Forum?

Peace,
~Tuck
