Equivalent to the Patch

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is an equivalent to the patch that one can take....I have insurance but since it just started I do not have any insurance cards yet therefore I cannot afford to get the patch yet. The only pharmacy near me that carries the patch says it's more than $500 for 15. So is there something that can be taken that's basically the same...I have been through w/d too many times to go through it with these bad boys.
I have been trying to contact my doctor for two days but the lines have been busy. I can't go to another doctor because I don't have Insurance cards yet as I stated above.
Even if I find something that is the equivalent to the patches and I mean just about the exact same..will I still need to be weaned off? I am currently taking the 75 mg every 48 hours.

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm presuming you're talking about the fentanyl patch?  Fentanyl is a very strong pain med, as I'm sure you're aware.  It does come in other forms - pills, IV and "lollipops" - perhaps one of those other forms would be less expensive for you - I'm not sure.  The main thing is, none of those are as long acting as the patches.  The patches are designed so that you receive a small, continuous dose of medication over the entire time that you have the patch on, therefore you don't experience the peaks and waning of pain control that you sometimes can with oral and even IV medication.  I'm guessing that you've already tried shorter acting medications and they were not fully helpful in controlling your pain.  Therefore, I'm not sure, even if your doctor was willing to change your prescription AND it was cheaper than the patch, that it would be effective enough for your pain control.

Above all else, DO NOT go to another doctor whether you have insurance or not.  To go to an additional doctor to get pain meds is definitely "doctor shopping" and there are serious consequences, including being dismissed by your doctor and being completely unable to obtain your meds at all.

I have a couple of suggestions for you:

a) Contact your insurance company and ask them if they could fax a temporary card either to you or to your pharmacy.  Many insurance companies will do this and that way you will be able to get your prescription filled and have the insurance cover it.

b) Contact the manufacturer of your patches (there are different manufacturers, so I can't tell you exactly who to contact).  If you look on your prescriptioin box, it will say who the manufacturer is and there may also be a phone number on the box.  If there isn't, you can easily find their phone number online or perhaps even by calling the 1-800 directory (most manufacturers will have a toll free number).  Many drug manufacturers have a patient assistance program than you may qualify for, even if temporarily until your new insurance cards come through.

c) If all else fails, go back to teh doctor that prescribed the patches - even if you have to just show up in their office with your current prescription in hand - and explain the situation to the doctor and ask if he/she could switch your prescripion to something else (even the fentanyl in a different form) - at least for this month until your insurance cards come in.

There are, of course, many other pain medications, but with the dose of the patch that you're currently only, and with it (fentanyl) being so much stronger than them, the amount of medication that you would have to take to be equivalent, I fear, would be pretty difficult to find.

Best of luck.

Free nicotine patches are available to smokers who want to quit. The resources which are nicotine replacement therapy (NRTs) products are available in many parts of the USA and other international locations. They are mostly funded by governments and non-profit organizations to help those who are quitting smoking quickly started.

Free patches often come with free stop smoking programs which recipients may voluntarily attend or participate in. The patches will save you about $100 worth of supplies in most cases. These programs recognize that many people who want to quit smoking often times can not afford nor sustain the supply of NRTs required.

The general effect of free nicotine patches is that participation in stop smoking programs spikes. Short term smoking relapse rates significantly fall as participants are engaged in three to six weeks cessation programs.

In fact research shows that the use of nicotine replacement products is more successful when combined with cessation programs. People who enroll for quitting programs double their chance of walking away nicotine-free for good.

After doing research and some extra studying for the last hour or so... I realized that I believe you are talking about the Patch for cigarettes... But for some reason I questioned myself if that was what you were referring to LOL... If it is the Nicotine Patch you are referring to here you go... If not then I just spent an hour to help someone else out LOL!

I know this is not the exact answer you are looking for but have you researched this? I was smoking two plus packs a day and I took this personally... I loved it and would personally recommend it...

It does not work for everyone, but what does?
Using the patch you are only breaking the habbit of smoking but you are still giving your body the nicotine. Not saying that it is not a viable option just trying to help out as you said that cost was an issue!

I am not aware as I have searched and searched and searched for other options for the patch at a cheaper price but I am looking now again just in case. Just wanted to provide this to you so you could take a look at it and see if it is a viable option for you or not.

Zyban also referred to as Wellbutrin, is a prescription medication and you need to consult a physician before taking it. The active ingredient in ZYBAN is bupropion, a drug also used to treat depression. Zyban does not contain any nicotine and helps reduce the craving for cigarettes.

You can get Zyban online at  Powpharmacy - a licensed US pharmacy.

How Does Zyban Work?

Zyban affects your brain chemistry resulting in a reduced need for cigarettes. It also reduces the withdrawal symptoms. You need to take Zyban for about 7 to 12 weeks. The exact time will depend on the individual, some people will need a longer treatment period than others.

What Does It Cost?

Zyban costs anywhere from $80 to $110 (depending on whether you buy the generic version or the brand name) for a supply of 30 tablets. The recommended dosage is 2 tablets per day.

This one may sound a little silly but Aricular Therapy has been used in China for a long long time! I have not tested it but it is cheap you may want to investigate and or research it...

What is Zerosmoke®?
Zerosmoke® uses two biomagnets to create a precise pressure point on the outer ear. Auricular therapy, as this is called, stimulates acupuncture points in the outer ear.

Zerosmoke® uses magnets (rather than invasive needles normally associated with acupuncture) to activate the production of neurotransmitters in the brain to eradicate the desire to smoke.

What do I do with Zerosmoke®?

Place the Zerosmoke® magnets on your ear. There are two magnets, each a different size. Place the smaller magnet on the front of the ear and the larger behind the ear.

Leave the magnets on your ear at least 3 hours, but no more than 4 hours a day. Whenever possible, use the magnets when you are calm, such as at home in the evenings.

Do this for six to seven days. You can continue smoking during this time.

On day seven, if you have not already done so, stop smoking.

You will find it very easy to stop smoking because the magnets have already induced the production of endorphins that remove the craving to smoke.

Continue using Zerosmoke® for the next 20 to 25 days, according to the instructions and advice given in the accompanying manual.

I found it here:
http://www.quitsmoking.com/zerosmoke/index.htm

But I am sure with a little Google you can get it all over!

There is a company I found in New Zeland where you can get the EXACT same chemical ingrediants as what is marketed here in the USA. Again with a little google you could find several more I am sure I am just pointing you in a direction to help you save time. Does not matter where you get them from! If you use your Credit Card you will have full buyer protection to make sure you get the right product just try not to use a Debit Card unless you have to as you can not dispute it quite as easily from my experience!

Here is the price I found for ALL THREE Step Downs for lack of better words!

Habitrol Nicotine Patches Starter Pack (Step 1,2,3)
Regular Price: $255.52
Our Price: $194.22

Habitrol Patches Step 1 21mg 7 Patches
Regular Price: $21.89
Our Price: $18.71
As low as: $16.32

So more then 55% off what you were quoted from your pharmacy!
