The fact that he is snorting his medication, whether he gets it from a doctor or buys it off the street, fairly screams addiction. He is on a dangerous and slippery path. Would he consider going to detox or quitting on his own? The more he does this, the harder it will be to get off.
I'm uncertain about caregiver's claims about fibrosis but addiction is a progtessive disease. At some point he'll be not getting the high he wants and he'll either start smoking it or start using heroin.

Snorting percocets is an absolute positive path to the worst death imaginable. The crushed percocets have inert filler that is about the same as inhaling asbestos. Over a period of years the lungs will develop fibrosis, he will be on oxygen and debilitated and die. He will develop shortness of breath which will become progressively worse until he is unable to walk. This is incurable. This is not a fantasy. This is what will happen. If he has an insatiable opiate addiction there are other ways to satisfy the addiction.
