Post Surgery: Lap Chole

Hi, yesterday (Oct 6, 2010) I had a lap chole done, and today I am still in severe pain when I move.  Oxycodone was prescribed to me, and that is not working.  The hospital called me to see how I was doing, and after telling them that I am in oain, they replied that something might be wrong.  Now as a surgical tech, I am not in the habit of accusing a surgeon of mistakes.  I just want the pain to go away even if it is just slightly.

I am just wondering why my pain is so high, when I should have mild to no pain by now.

I've never had that surgery done but I have had several done and the most painful surgery was kidney stones and was in severe pain for weeks with the kidney stent.  If you feel that the medication is not properly keeping your pain control down then I would suggest you go to the ER and have them take a look at you to make sure everything is fine from the surgery and also get you some more pain relief.  Sometimes just knowing that the surgery was done correctly and the amount of pain you are in is right, then you can handle it afterwords.  Good luck and hope you start to feel better soon.

I had a lap Chole and I was in pain for a long long time! They sent me home with really bad cheap medication and I suffered for about 1 week. Every time I stood up it felt like my insides were falling out. So, I remember my nursing days and  remembered a trick.

Take a towel pillow etc fold it up and hold it right in front of your stomach when you stand up. Use this when you walk, sit down etc., it's quite a useful trick that really does help 'pain' from moving.  Also, I think sometimes medication like oxy does not work that well. Maybe it's inflamation? Speak with your doctor and find out if there is a better medication that you can have... Make sure your not running a temp, and look for the obvious side effects/symptoms I'm sure you know these things. Just don't over do it and watch a lot of telly!!
