Every pain management office has this policy. Prescriptions are written for either 28 days or 30- depending on state law and insurance company requirements.
There is no reason for patients to ‘run out early’ if they are following the dosage instructions .
Running out early means the patient isn’t complying with the drs orders and is considered self medicating/ misusing the medications- both clearly against the practices and policies of pain management rules and contracts.
If a dosage isn’t working or a patient is experiencing spikes in pain levels- they need to contact their doctor for directions on what to do- increase dosage for a day or two, try other modalities, etc. NEVER take additional doses of prescribed medication without your doctors permission before doing so.
Another thing to remember is a patient can be called in at any time for a pill count. Failure to show up if called in for a count/urine test is also grounds for immediate dismissal.
