Left side problem

Hello, I'm a 67 almost 68 year-old woman. In 2009 I had to have back surgery. The surgery lasted more than it was supposed to and when I woke up the doctor told me that something happened and he had to go back because there was a leakage and he had to glue it to stop it.  A couple of months passed and my left leg started having cramps. I never had cramps in my entire life and it was very painful. It felt like my bones were exploding from the inside out.  Since then I had two more surgeries on my back and the pain sometimes is unbearable and constant. Nothing helps. I've develop other things and I'm not even sure if anything is related. Can you tell me is there is hope for me. This is not what our retirement was supposed to be.

hello fellow boomer! And oh boy can i relate! What helped me a lot and helps others i know is lyrica. And perhaps baklofen for the cramping etc. Helps with other stuff too. Check online about them and ask your doc if you become interested. Just two things that helped me. Along with walking no matter the pain. Gotta---must---you will walk everyday---promise your body---trick your mind----only goin' a block mind--no prob----just two more blocks----ok just down to the park----well---and you get the picture.  But Movement is of primary importance.
And diversions are important. To take your mind "away" from the dwelling. We are doing diversions at getting older/getting wiser group just started by evewisewoman. Just another tool in your "pain relief kit" you are putting together.

Hi Rosswall,

I just finished reading your comments. A member of my family has a very
bad back. She fell a number of years ago and is now in chronic pain.
She's never wanted back surgery, although within the last two years she
has had a few procedures performed on her back by a back surgeon.
She's have two nerve blocks done by this surgeon. Neither one helped
her, she said the last one made it worse. She receives perscriptions for
oxycotin or percocet to deal with her chronic pain. I don't know if you're
already taking pain killers. These are of course, doctor prescribed, so
you would need to talk to your family doctor to see if this pain medication
is suitable for you. I wish you well. Evewisewoman is my nickname on
this site, but feel free to call me Eve.
