Paid and weekness below the waist

I'm 44 years old and for the better part of the last 8 years, I have a pain in my left testicle.  I've had ultrasounds and catscans and all have come back fine.  I also, over the years, have realized that I've gotten weaker below the waist.  I'm often asked why I'm "dragging my leg" when I walk.  I find that I can no longer lift my legs to put on socks (while standing) like I could have years ago.  Finally, when sitting (even for 5-10 minutes), I find that, upon standing up, my legs stiffen (almost spasm).

I'm not sure all of these are related or not but would certainly like some help.

Recenly, I've had a nerve block for the testicle pain, but that did nothing.  Muscle relaxants also have had little effect on this.

Thanks.

Thanks Link for informing us of the appt. I hope the neurologist will have some answers for you.

Kolo is correct epididymitis and prostatitis can cause extreme testicle pain. They are often difficult to treat. However I don't think that it would account for your other symptoms. As we all know sometimes we can have several things going on at the same time which makes diagnosing even a larger challenge.

Best of luck. I will be interested in hearing the results of your neuro consult.

Peace,
Tuck

Good for you link, it seemed like a long shot anyway but when I had that problem I would have eaten live frogs if someone said it might help. And I've always been skeptical of many of these alternative therapies but at this point I have to give a lot of credit to my witchy crystal ladies (as I affectionately call them ) for really being quite effective in helping me time after time. Good luck.

Thanks very much for your viewpoints. I'm not a big follower of alternative methods, but it's good to know. We already have s few low yeast, wheat, and sugar diet due to my son's diabetes and celiac disease.

Okay, I was just reminded that there was a little more to it. I had to completely remove yeast and SUGAR from my diet. This includes pretty much all prepared foods. I think I ate nothing but fresh fish and salad with oil and vinegar. I was also reminded that I did have a couple of flare-ups later. Both came after taking a round of antibiotics for something else which seemed to validate the yeast idea - my natural flora was decimated allowing yeast to grow. I mentioned this to my doctor and he just said "no way, voodoo medicine". But each time I switched back to the no yeast and no sugar diet and took probiotics and it sure seemed to work. Good luck.

What an awful thing to have. For what it's worth, I had horrible pain in my testicles for about a year once. I was diagnosed with epididimitis, then prostatitis, and other things I don't remember. I was given antibiotics, then super-antibiotics. They tried blocking nerves and injecting lidocaine. Everything made it worse. At one point I was on my hands and knees for three days. My family stuffed sofa cushions under my chest when I could no longer hold myself up. Finally I saw an alternative healer. She took one look at me and said "Oh, you have a yeast problem". I stopped eating anything with yeast in it and started eating fresh fish on her advice. Well, I was felling better within three days and felt fine in a week and it's never come back. (Oh lord, where is some wood to knock on?)  Now, I think the dragging leg thing especially behooves you to really check this out medically to the last degree. But while you do that it couldn't hurt to have some fish dinners - no bread. I would imagine you are ready to try anything. Good luck.

Hello Link,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I apologize for my tardy response. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your chronic and increasing pain.

Have you had an MRI of your spine. In my opinion and experience testicular pain can be referred pain from a spinal structural issue. I am not an expert but I think your additional symptoms add the suspicion that your pain may be spine related.

The unsuccessful nerve block may have indicated that it was the wrong nerve that was blocked. Have you seen several good neurologists? If not I would seek a second or even a third opinion. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes and another train of thought can pick up something that others may have missed or dismissed that was/is relevant.

You're still young and I encourage you to keep searching for a cause to your pain and decreasing weakness. Please keep in touch and let us know how you aer doing. We will look forward to hearing from you again.

Take Care,
Tuck
