Blue feet & hands

My 4 month old son's left foot turned blue today. His Dad was walking around with him and letting his legs dangle. When he came & gave him to me, I noticed that his foot was really blue... I moved him into a different position, and it went back to normal quite quickly. Later, we noticed that both of his hands were a little blue. We took him to the ER, and they had no answers for us. Can you help? Is this a cause for concern? They did an x-ray of his lungs-all good. Oxygen level 97%.

We have read about Raynauds, and he doesn't have any other symptoms. He's a happy baby, except when he's hungry and we're not feeding him! Other than this one day, he has never had this happen before, so I hope that it was a one time freak incident!

If it could be raynauds which is rare in small children the tips of his fingers will turn white color, always good info to ask the doctor though ..

Hi...I am new to this, but I was reading your question and found it so odd that you were discribing the only symtom my daughter is missing! Her doctors are recently treating her for Raynauds. Look it up!! The baby can not tell you how he or she is feeling, but you can see a difference in skin color. I am not at all trying to alarm you, just want you to be informed. My 10yr old daughter is suffering from all the sensations that come with the Raynauds except the discoloration. We are baffled and now she has developed miagrain headaches. She will be undergoing a test later this week to test her nerve endings. Good luck to you and your family!

Thank you. We called the doctor and spoke to his nurse who said to just keep an eye on him and to bring him in if it happens again. It's been 2 days since it happened, and nothing yet. So, hopefully it was just the way he was being held and lack of circulation into his foot.

Yes, agree with above.  since you went the ER------  it is common to then follow up with your primary care doctor/pediatrician.  That would give you another chance to discuss this with a doctor and be reassured that it is okay.  If you see blue around the lips, head to the Er though as you know.

Lots of luck.  4 month olds are wonderful.  They are begining to 'wake up' to the world around them.  Enjoy!

ou had him all checked out so you know hes doing okay .It may be something called physiological cutis mammorata   my guess is babies feet and hands got cold , maybe when Dad was walking him around baby didnt have much clothing on, as they get older circulation improves .Make sure he has socks on his feet even if it seems warm to you , and adequate clothes on .Its very common in babies , and also normal to be concerned ..good luck
