Unusual bowel motion

my grandaughter is 4 months old and has just begun rice cereal mixed with breast milk.  For 3 days she passed nothing and on the fourth day she had a bowel motion shaped like a cricket ball which was extremely painful for her and caused anal fissures. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening again?

Don't give rice cereal.  It seems to be constipating her, and the general recommendation for solid food is not even to begin until 6 months.  Her body is set up at this stage to digest breast milk.

Thank you for your reply. I passed it on to my daughter for her consideration.
