megaureter surgery

My son 12 is sceduled for surgery to repair is megaureter.  He has a blockage and the urologist says his ureter is very large.  I have read that extravesical detrusorraphy is the best surgery method to repair this.  Can anyone give any comment on this.  The doctor seems qualified but I would like more answers before the surgery.  Also, should my son take antibiotics before or after surgery to keep infections at bay?  I am comforted in reading that the success rate is 95% and I know my son will be fine.  I just want all questions answered in my mind before that day.
