Cystic ovaries can cause abnormal hormone levels and irregular menstrual cycles and problems conceiving especially if the cysts are a result of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Have your menstrual cycles been regular - every 25 to 33 days or so? If not, then that may explain why you have not been able to conceive. A reproductive endocrinologist or other fertility specialist may be able to help you. Best of luck!
Forgot to say - If you think you are in the early stages of pregnancy, you can do a pregnancy test. Since you have been trying to conceive for 5 years, an endocrine workup would be worthwhile to rule out an endocrine problem (such as thyroid).
